Our Community Celebrates

Abbey Plusch

There are many themes to my Torah portion, and the theme I would like to speak about is the theme of family. This is how I understand to become a bat mitzvah: daughter of the Commandments. It was my responsibility to make the world a better place, this is called a mitzvah project. For my mitzvah project I made 150 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with six of my friends for people in need. I also bought tons of cookies to make 50 bags with five different cookies in them for the homeless. I choose to do these things because it’s good for our community and it might encourage someone to do the same for others. The theme family relates to my Torah portion because when Joseph’s brothers are overcome by shame and remorse, Joseph was there too comfort them. Also, the theme family relates to me because if I was ever in a situation where something happened and I was upset, my sisters and brothers would always be there to comfort me.
